Season 1 - 2005/06

Updated: Sept 24, 2007

Interested in going to play an event in the World Series of Poker in Vegas next year? Not willing to cough up the $1500 US for the cheapest event? Well this is the deal.

Grand Prizes:

WSOP Package - $1,500 US seat in World Series of Poker (WSOP), plus cash to cover airfare and hotel in Vegas. Actual amount of cash depends on number of players and US exchange rate, but we will guarantee at least $500 Cdn (2007 winners got $500 Cdn + $110 US).

League Money Commitments:
Each player pays $70 per event with $40 going to Event prize pool and $30 going to Overall WSOP package pool.

Members are also required to pay $60 for a deposit. This is two $30 fees for your last 2 events WSOP drops. If you decide not to show one event unannounced, your first prepaid WSOP drop will be used, but you will be required to pay it back at the next event. There is no other penalty for not showing up unannounced. Any players who drops from the league will receive no refund and is ineligible to receive any portion of winnings from WSOP cashes. If you are unable to make a tournament, you may send a replacement player who would need to pay your WSOP drop. You may only use replacement player(s) for up to two events.

After your deposit is in, you'll need to bring $70 to each tournament; $30 for the WSOP drop and $40 for the cash tournament. If a player does not show to an event tournament, they are only responsible for the events $30 WSOP drop, they are NOT required to pay an additional $40 for the events tournament fee. Should you attend all tournaments up until Event #9 and/or #10 and haven't used either of your deposit events, you will not need to make the WSOP drop for the event(s).

Note that this means for Event #1 you will need $130 ($60 deposit, $30 WSOP drop and $40 cash tourney entry).

8 players at $30/month for 10 events is enough to handle one $2,400 Cdn WSOP Package. Essentially we can send one person for every 8 that enter down to Vegas for the big show.

You will need to commit to $300 ($30/event) over the year for the WSOP drop and $40 per event additional that you show up.

Points:

It works like this, each event, we will have a tournament with cash prizes for top 3-6 players depending on number of entries, and points awarded to top 10 league players. Points are awarded as follows...

1st-                  10000 points

2nd-                 8000

3rd –                6400

4th -                 4800

5th -                 3600

6th -                 2800

7th -                 2000

8th -                 1200

9th -                 800

10th -               400

11th-last -        0

All Prize Packages are of equal value.

At the end of the regular 10 event schedule, the leader in points wins the first Prize Package.

The remaining prize packages will be determined in a league final tournament. To qualify for the league final you need to satisfy one of the following criteria:

1)      Finish in 2nd to 10th place in points after Tiebreakers,

2)      Win 10,000 points in any one individual event. Note that you must win this yourself and not through a designate player to get the automatic buy into the league final. Note also that you need only be the top league member points-wise to get the buy, you don’t need to beat any non-league members.

The players satisfying the above criteria will play in a Final. At the Final, each player will receive 10,000 chips plus 1 chip for each point they received during the regular season (Regular season and Final tournament formats and blind schedules below). There will be no entry fee or prizes for the Final, except the Prize Package. For Season 3 it appears we will be giving out 5-6 packages in total. One package goes to the league leader and the other 4-5 to the winners of the league final. I expect anywhere from 9-14 players in the league final to be playing for those 4-5 prizes.

Tiebreakers:
In the event of a tie for 10th place, the following shall determine the tiebreaker:

  1. Points obtained.
  2. Player that earned the most points themselves, not from substitutes.
  3. Player that earned the most cash.
  4. If still tied after above, a tourney will take place to decide who makes the final table.

The winners of the prize packages agree to split any monies won at the World Series Of Poker with the league 50%/50% (after applicable taxes). The 50% League share will be split into 2 pools (25% each pool). The first pool will be split among all league-mates equally. The remaining half of the League share will be split by the % of points earned by each player. So if the chip leader going into the Final does not win, he/she will still receive the largest share of the League pool should a player cash in the WSOP.

Regular Tournament Structure:
Each event, players will begin with 5,000 chips and one "Rebuy". Rebuy may be used anytime in the first 2 hours for 5,000 additional chips, regardless of your chip count. The rebuy may be used as an Add-on at the 2nd break for 7,000 additional chips. The Rebuy is included with your monthly fee, there are no additional Rebuys for sale and no Refunds are given for unused Rebuys.

The blind structure is set up to finish the tourney at around 6 hours duration.

Blind Levels are 20 minutes in length for Levels 1-12 and 30 minutes for Levels 13 to 18.

Tournament Rules:

Arbitration:

  1. In the event of any dispute on the rules, a league organizer who is not involved in hand will rule on the hand.

Dealing:

  1. The tournament will be self dealt. Dealer is to offer an optional cut to the player currently seated to the dealer’s immediate right.
  2. A Dealer button will be positioned directly in front of the dealer.
  3. The dealer is responsible for protecting his own cards separately from the main deck.
  4. The dealer must burn one card prior to the flop, one card prior to the turn and one card prior to the river.
  5. The dealer must NOT pre-burn cards.
  6. In the event of an exposed card during the deal:
    1. If it is one of the first cards dealt to the blinds a miss-deal is declared.
    2. If it is any other card, the dealer will continue as if the card was not exposed until the deal is finished. At this point, the dealer will replace the exposed card with the next card on the deck and use the exposed card as the burn card.
    3. If more than one card is exposed during the deal a miss-deal is declared.

Players Actions:

  1. If a player intentionally exposes a card or cards before all betting is concluded:
    1. If the action is heads up, the exposed cards will remain exposed for the duration of the hand.
    2. If the action is not heads up the exposed hand will be declared dead, even if the player is all in.

Late buyin:

Any player showing up after the tournament begins will be allowed to enter the tournament late even if they are non-league members so long as it is:

1.      in the first hour of the tourney and

2.      the player can join without us needing to add a new table or push existing tables over 10 people.

If they arrive 0-20 minutes late they will have 150 chips removed from their stack prior to play, 20-40 minutes late and they will have 500 chips removed from their stack, 40-60 minutes will have 1000 chips removed. No one will be allowed to join the tournament after the first hour of play.

Table Balancing:

  1. Table balancing will occur anytime one table has at least 2 players more than another table.
  2. When a player needs to be moved to balance tables, a player will be removed from the table with the most players that is next on the big blind. If more than one table is tied for the most players the table with higher table number will be used. Ie. Tables 1 and 3 have 9 players while Table 2 has 7 players. The next player on the big blind on Table 3 would be moved to Table 2 in the seat where the last person was eliminated.

Breaking Tables:

  1. When a table is broken a the highet number table will break and fill up the empty seats on the other tables.
  2. A complete tournament redraw for seats will occur for the final 2 tables and the final table.
  3. We will move from 7 tables to 6 tables when we have 48 players.
  4. We will move from 6 tables to 5 tables when we have 40 players.
  5. We will move from 5 tables to 4 tables when we have 32 players.
  6. We will move from 4 tables to 3 tables when we have 24 players.
  7. We will move from 3 tables to 2 tables when we have 18 players.
  8. We will move from 2 tables to 1 table when we have 10 players.

Coloring up Chips:

  1. Color up procedures will be done as a standard chip race. All the lowest denomination chips on each table will be cashed in for bigger chips as much as possible. The remaining odd small denomination chips will be counted up and rounded up into the next lowest denomination. Each player will get one card for each small denomination chip left. The highest card for each player will be used to determine winners of the chip race. Each player can win only one larger chip.

Official Tournament Positions:

  1. If two players go out on the same hand on the same table, the player that started the hand with more chips will receive the higher position.
  2. If for purposes of points, two players go out on the same hand on different tables, the same rule of who started the hand with the most chips gets the higher placing applies.

Hand-for-Hand Play:

  1. There will be no hand-for-hand play in our tournaments. All cash prize bubbles will likely be bursting when there is only one table left so there is no reason for hand-for-hand play for the cash bubble.
  2. The points bubble will occur with two tables left in all likelihood, but we have decided against hand-for-hand play.

Season 3 - 2008 Changes to Rules:

  1. The cash portion of the tourney is moved up to $40 (from $30) while leaving the league fee portion untouched at $30. For league members that translates to an additional $10 per event, but has the much desired effect of upping the prize payouts.
  2. We formalized the “late buyin” rule. Any player showing up late will be allowed to enter the tournament late even if they are non-league members so long s it is: a) in the first hour of the tourney and b) the player can join without us needing to add a new table or push existing tables over 10 people. If they arrive 0-20 minutes late they will have 150 chips removed from their stack prior to play, 20-40 minutes late and they will have 500 chips removed from their stack, 40-60 minutes will have 1000 chips removed. No one will be allowed to join the tournament after the first hour of play.

Season 2 – 2007 Changes to Rules:

  1. Substitutes: We continued to allow substitutes, but you now need to send someone specifically, that person must approach the tourney organizer and state who in the league s/he is playing for and that person MUST PAY your $30 WSOP drop before the tournament begins for you to be eligible for any points that person gets you.
  2. The starting time remained the same at 8pm start but we did our best to get the show going on time as this was the number one complaint from season 1.
